Economic Opportunities

The Fishery in St. Anthony offers excellent investment opportunities. As well as large-scale cargo and packaging facilities
St. Anthony offers many economic & investment opportunities..
We invite potential investors and skilled trade professionals to explore the commercial possibilities that our region has to offer..

St. Anthony represents the tourism & economic hub of Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula. Our region holds a population base of almost 30,000 residents..

Regional investment opportunities are yielding excellent returns - at minimal cost.

The region also offers a supply of vast natural resources, along with a strong work-force & modern infrastructure..

Ultra High-speed Internet allows locally-based business to effectively communicate globally..

All located within the best place to live in the world.

St. Anthony's fishery is a highly successful industry - which holds promise, scalability - and a business-friendly development environment.

We feel our fisheries will become exponentially larger in scale within upcoming years. The fishery is likely to attract a great deal of investment and infrastructure improvements.

Most local job positions (all categories) are posted in our regional newspaper, the Northern Pen.

Our town's prosperity and tourism industry is rapidly growing - which requires local investment to meet immediate regional business and tourism demands..

Tourism

  • Tourism industry requires further investment to accommodate accelerated growth (accommodations, restaurants, etc.)
  • Theme parks & other attractions offer profit possibilities.
  • Ski resort property is already partially developed - and available for completion.
  • Snowmobile "adventure tour" operations could take advantage of our region's spectacular groomed trail system.

Fishery

  • Proposed extension of wharf and cargo facilities will allow expansion of local fishery.
  • St. Anthony offers excellent docking and packaging facilities
  • SABRI Basin Resources aids the coordination of all fishery related ventures.
  • Retailers can package fresh seafood - directly at the source - at minimal cost.

Health Care

  • Major Hospital & Medical facilities constantly require skilled medical professionals (Labrador Grenfell Health)
  • Newfoundland & Labrador Health Line (Fonemed) - Provincial headquarters of health-care "call center" is located in St. Anthony.. Offers excellent career opportunities & benefit-packages (requires nursing and business administrative professionals).
  • Veterinarian is required for our region
  • Senior citizen care facilities are needed to accommodate growing senior population.

Natural Resources

  • Iceberg water is easily accessible and facilities & workforce allows commercial operations locally. There is already a highly successful bottled-water company operating in St. Anthony - with distribution throughout North America. Visit 80º North website.
The purity of Iceberg water has launched several new companies (Vodka, bottled water, etc.)
  • Berries - The anti-oxidant "health" properties of berries is becoming common knowledge and an extremely profitable industry. Our region offers a HUGE abundance of berries (and a wide variety of species). We often predict that a local entrepreneur will soon earn huge profits - through continental sales of this highly available resource. (ex. bottled juices)
  • Forestry - The Northern Peninsula contains vast areas of lumber resources
  • Fresh Water - A huge supply of pure, fresh water is also available for commercial resale. Factors, such as "global warming" have caused water shortages (elsewhere).. Our unlimited water supply - and uncomparable purity - is quickly becoming a highly precious resource.
  • And, of course, Fresh Atlantic Seafood !!

Business Opportunities

  • Car wash facilities are required
  • Movie Theatre required in region
  • Golf Course & Driving Range
  • Bowling Alley
  • Dry Cleaners
  • Specialized Bakery
  • Ethnic Restaurants - Thai, Greek, Mexican, Indian, etc. - would attract regional interest
  • Skilled professionals are required in many areas, such as veterinarian, appliance & electronics repair, etc.

Chamber of Commerce

  • The St. Anthony & Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization that has been in existence since the late 70’s and has become a very prominent business based organization in the region. The CHAMBER currently serves all communities between Goose Cove and Cook’s Harbour and has approximately 70 members. There is an executive committee in place and it has a coordinator position paid fully by your membership fees.
  • The mandate of the "Chamber of Commerce" is to promote and improve trade and commerce and the economic, civic and social welfare of the district.

  • Contact our Chamber of Commerce:

    President:
    Maurice Simmonds (709) 454-3434 / 7055

Visitor Comments on St. Anthony

"We have just returned from the Northern Pennisula, where we spent 12 glorious days.. The trails in your area are amazing and I'm not even a walker or climber, yet I made it up many of them.. The walk at Great Brehat, Goose Cove (and many others) were easy to make because of the spectaular care in creating and caring for them.. They are secure and gradual, just what I need.. My husband made the climb on the "stairway to heaven" near the Lighthouse restaurant - and is sure the clean healthy air made it a pleasant climb.. We spent 4 days right in St. Anthony (yup, we did the iceberg and whale watch boat tour and the Grenfell interpretation centre) and 3 more days in the nearby area - and were never at a loss for a road to turn down, a wonderful view to see and terrific people to meet. We bought carvings, sweaters and mitts and went home with suitcases and memories packed right full.. Thank you for a superb stop on our tour of the Northern Penninsula, we have already recommended it to family and friends - and we've only been home 24 hours".. Ken and Cathy Macaulay - Paris, Ontario.. [More visitor comments]..
